Patriotic Art Contests - VFW Auxiliary National Organization | Unwavering Support for Uncommon Heroes

Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest
Students in grades 9-12 have the opportunity to compete for $15,000 in national
scholarships. This scholarship contest recognizes young artists and encourages
patriotism in youth. Entries will be judged on the originality of concept, presentation and
patriotism expressed, content of how it relates to patriotism and clarity of ideas, design
technique and total impact of work.

3-Dimensional Patriotic Art Scholarship Contest
Students in grades 9-12 have the opportunity to compete for $5,500 in national
scholarships. The VFW Auxiliary started the 3-Dimensional American Creative Patriotic
Art Contest to recognize up-and-coming artists and encourage patriotism in youth.
Students must submit an original -dimensional piece of artwork. Digital art, jewelry and
weapons are not accepted.

Illustrating America Art Contest
Local students in grades K-8 can share how they view our world through their drawings
and paintings while competing for national awards. The contest rewards the artistic
abilities of elementary and middle/junior high school students. Students must submit an original two-dimensional piece of artwork.

Voice Of Democracy & Patriot's Pen

Scholarships

The 2026-27 theme is: 
"What a Veteran Taught Me About America.”
 
Voice of Democracy Scholarship competition is open for local high school students to compete for thousands of dollars in scholarships and a trip to Washington, D.C. Students must write and record a three-to-five minute essay on the selected theme using an audio CD or flash drive and present their recording, typed essay and completed entry form to in Scholar's App by October 31, 2026.

Patriot’s Pen youth essay competition is open for middle school students in grades 6-8 in this area  to compete and win thousands of dollars in national awards. The VFW enacted the Patriot’s Pen competition in 1995 to encourage young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society by composing a 300- to 400-word patriotic-themed essay in Scholar's App by October 31, 2026.
